Ghosts: A Protective Spirit

Readers. have a look at this post, from Quora, copied for you below. It’s an unusual kind of ghost, and the author came to feel it had the family’s safety in mind. That’s interesting because the ghost responds to the living in an intelligent way, it’s not a “filmstrip” of the past (when one sees a ghost which appears unaware of one’s presence), and its actions appear, upon reflection, to have meaning. Read on below for more:

When I was in my late 20s, my wife and I bought our first home, which was a very old home that needed major renovations. When the wind blew, the curtains actually moved away from the walls… despite the old storm windows that were installed. The previous owner had been an elderly lady who fell down the basement stairs and eventually died, after laying down there for several days.

The bedrooms in this house were all on the 2nd floor, but the only bathroom was in the basement. That made it necessary to go down two flights of stairs, including the steep, rickety ones leading to the basement. Our young children established a buddy system for overnight bathroom trips, so they never had to go alone or wake us up. One night, as they began their descent down the uppermost stairway, a small matchbox car (that our son had left out at the bottom of the stairs) literally flew up the stairway and hit him in the forehead, according to his older sister. They were so terrified that they went back to bed and waited until morning to use the bathroom. He had a large welt on his forehead, as evidence of the story they shared with us during breakfast.

Not long thereafter, I was suddenly awakened from a sound sleep, by a sense of terror. I sat up in bed, wide awake, in total darkness. Across the room, appeared a glowing image of a partially-decayed, floating head. It was that of a very old woman. I closed my eyes and rubbed them in disbelief, only to see that she had actually moved closer when I reopened them. In panic, I jumped out of bed and turned on the bedroom lights. She was not there, so I scurried around the house, turning on every single light. She was nowhere to be found. I had to explain this to my bewildered wife, whom I had awakened, but I made some lame excuse to the kids because I didn’t want to panic them.

A few days later, I replaced the basement stairs with ones that were neither steep, nor rickety. After that, we had no other incidents of flying toys or floating head images. Despite previously not believing in paranormal activity, we were convinced that the home’s last occupant was trying to protect us from the unsafe stairs.

Ghosts: A Peculiar Ghost

Readers, here’s an eerie tale about a peculiar ghost, with a startling postscript:  read on! This post comes to us from contributor Andy Brown, on Quora: I’ve copied the story for you here, but the link is also available below:

Andy Brown

This is absolutely true. I know it’s hard to believe but I promise this happened.

I was living with my brother and his girlfriend when I was 22 years old. We lived in a house that on 3 sides was surrounded by some pretty dense wooded areas. The house was out of view from anyone else and honestly it just always felt creepy being there. Even inside the house alone something just felt off. I always thought it was just me and didn’t want to tell my brother anything bad about his place. Sometimes at night when I would get home from work before anyone else I would drive around or find somewhere to go because didn’t like being there at the house. Being there almost had a feeling like u weren’t alone and someone was looking at you.

One Friday night my brother didn’t have to work and him and his girlfriend were out in the living room watching a movie. It Felt good they were home and felt very relaxed. It was summer time and his place didn’t have air conditioning. I was laying in my bedroom reading a magazine with my head to a wall that had an open window. I was laying in my underwear almost was facing the other way. For some reason I couldn’t turn around. I wanted to jump off the bed and then turn around but turning around on the bed felt out of the question. I didn’t want to appear I was trying to get away from the voice so I said, “ yea Jim I’ll be right there”

I got up and hurried out the door. I started screaming to my brother that there was someone outside of the window with a real creepy voice asking for help but it didn’t sound like it really needed any help?? They were both mad I interrupted their movie. “Come on Andy there’s no one outside”. After 10,minutes of me convincing them they paused the movie and we headed outside. falling asleep. Suddenly I hear a soft little girl voice say, “ please help me,please help me”. My hair stood up and I froze. I had been falling asleep so it crossed my mind that I was imagining it. Then again,” please help me, help me, nowww” this time the voice sounded very strange. I hate to admit I was froze with fear, the voice was coming through the open window and I

We went out through the back door and we were walking a single file line towards the side of the house. My brother was first, his girlfriend was holding on to him,and I was in back. as We got to the side of the house where the chain link fence was we started towards the gate and then, BAMMM something hit the fence so hard and literally flew over us. All we could feel was long hair on our arms and faces. It was the most creepy thing in the world. It landed right behind me and scurried into the woods. It was very dark, I mean u couldn’t see 3 ft in front of yourself. All we could see was a shape, like a mass moving towards the woods. The hair going over our skin was so creepy because there’s no animal that has long hair like that. We went back inside and tried to make sense of what just happened.

My brother drilled me on hearing the voice. Since obviously that wasn’t a little girl. I have trouble describing the voice but yea that’s still best thing I can think of

It was about a year or so later when one evening I was driving pass the field at the entrance of the driveway. In the field there was an old jungle gym that weeds covered half of and it was rusted out ready to fall. I stopped my truck and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Swinging bar to bar on that jungle gym was a person with no legs and hair that went pass the rest of its body. It spun around, looked at me and dropped off, scurrying into the woods. This really happened and to this day I have no idea where that person came from or what the story is on him/her. I know for sure that that the voice was from him/her because we felt the hair on us when they jumped over us at the fence. Pretty creepy huh??

Ghosts: The Moore Hotel and the Moore Theater

Readers, this theater is said to be very haunted – I’m including the story because the theater was part of the old Moore Hotel in downtown Seattle.  As a child, I learned to swim at the Moore Hotel pool, and I remember vividly the heebie-jeebies I felt the minute I got near it.  While I do not recall seeing any ghosts there, I do remember this creepy atmosphere of the pool itself, despite being surrounded by other people in and around the pool.  Perhaps it contributed to an irrational fear of deep ends of swimming pools I retained into adulthood, despite being an excellent swimmer and even swimming on a team.  I did some further investigation and lo and behold, there have been reports of ghosts at the Moore by others.  I submit one here, but if you simply google, there are more.  From Ghostly Activities:  The Moore Theater Ghosts     from Reddit:  The Moore Hotel Ghosts

Ghosts: The House on Lindley Street

Readers, here’s an account of a most haunted house, one which had many witnesses attesting to peculiar events within. Although it was said later to have been a hoax, many individuals were not convinced of that – they had seen too much. It’s located in Bridgeport, CT. Here’s the back story: you decide.
